The Seth Harris Childhood Cancer Foundation seeks to provide information and emotional support to families of children with cancer. If you have just heard the news that your child has cancer, you may feel that your world is spiraling out of control. The list of worries and concerns, as well as tasks for you to accomplish, grows exponentially, seemingly by the minute, and you are thrown into a world of medical facts and figures, treatment maps, financial chaos, and despair over your child's health.

Below are a few things to help you get started on your journey. Take the steps you can, when you can. Reach out to family and friends for help. Ask questions. Get informed about your child's specific cancer, and what you can do to help his or her recovery process. Many hospitals offer Social Workers to help you. Take advantage of this opportunity. Talk to your social worker and ask them for what you need. Many times they can help.

Bookmark this page, and visit here when you need information. Visit our blog. Email Dawn and Chad. They are Seth's parents. They have been where you are now. Sometimes a listening ear and a place to vent does wonders!

Things to do today:

Pray for the health of your child. Right now. Even though you may feel angry or confused about your child's diagnosis, your spiritual relationship will give you comfort in the days ahead. Pray for your child's team of doctors and nurses, for guidance, accuracy and kindness.

Create a Caring Bridge Website for your child. It's easy! Anyone can do it! All you need is an email address. Caring Bridge is a website that allows you to post information about your child's situation or needs to many people at one time. There are friends and families, as well as strangers, that care about what your child is going through and want to help. Let them. Keep them informed with this website. Also, you have the chance to read other parent's pages and journal entries. This is often an invaluable place to learn more about your child's condition. Visit our "Links" Page for a link.

Research online for information on your child's specific type of cancer. Often times, you are your child's best advocate.

Find fun things to do in your room or at home to ease stress or take your child's mind off their diagnosis. Puzzles, books, video games, create a journal, scrapbook, movies and word games are some ideas to help.
