Santa came to town on the train just in time to read and share cookies with the children of Bay Springs and to benefit the Seth Harris Childhood Cancer Foundation. The Watco train horn announced the arrival of the jolly icon of Christmas, to the delight of children and adults gathered at the Smith Park Pavilion December 14. Cookies and milk were served, compliments of the SHCCF and Sunflower, and Santa read aloud the story of Christmas. Photos were taken by Bobby Harvison.
Pictured with Santa is Griff Sykes of Newton (Below), along with his family. Griff was a special guest of the SHCCF. Griff is in treatment for ALL, a form of Leukemia, at Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson. Griff's father, Stephan Sykes, addressed the crowd at the event, discussing Griff's progression and prognosis.
The SHCCF, founded in memory of local cancer victim Seth Harris, functions to enhance awareness for pediatric cancer and works with BEB to benefit survivors through projects locally and at the hospital.
