SHCCC Makes Christmas Brighter x 877!

by Dawn Harris on 01/06/13

A total of 877 toys and gift cards were presented in a mass donation to Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital made possible by the Seth Harris Childhood Cancer Foundation and Club. This project, organized by SHCCF Board Member Emily Evans and John Caleb Grenn, along with Jim and Chip Grenn, collected toys and gift cards from Sacred Heart Jr. Beta Club, Presbyterian Christian School Beta Club, USM's Lambda Sigma honor society, Wesley Foundation, Impulse, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Pi Beta Phi and Delta Gamma Sororities, Heidelberg Academy, Sylva-Bay Academy, Coldwell Banker and many other local individuals which amounted to a staggering number of 877 gifts which were delivered to children in treatment at BEB, Mississippi's only children's hospital. The toys arrived just in time for Christmas and were welcomed and then distributed by nurses at the hospital.

The Seth Harris Childhood Cancer Club, the junior version of the Seth Harris Childhood Cancer Foundation, was formed in 2012 and has made a huge impact during the short time they have been organized.  Youth club members, along with our community and schools,  also provided BEB with the overnight care packages, quality tissue for the entire cancer clinic floor and Ronald McDonald House, provided candy to the cancer clinic to their annual carnival for cancer patients and their siblings and stocked the snack area for Thanksgiving week on the cancer floor, providing a Keurig coffee machine for ongoing use.  These Youth in action continue to pour their hearts into making life a little easier for the children undergoing treatment for cancer as a tribute to Seth Harris and other local children who have or are currently battling cancer. If you would like to join these remarkable youth in their service, or for any other information on the SHCCF, please visit the Club page.

SHCCF Float Wins Second Place in the Bay Springs Christmas Parade!

by Dawn Harris on 11/30/12

Members of the SHCCF and SHCCC joined together to create a parade float for the Bay Springs Christmas Parade, held November 30, 2012. Club Members threw candy and "Cookies with Santa" cups to the crowd as the float made it's way through the streets of Seth's hometown of Bay Springs, MS. The float was awarded second place for it's outstanding workmanship on an intricate float titled "Cookies with Santa". Click here to see a photo of the float.

The float, consisting of a Gingerbread house and candy forest complete with Gingerbread Man (aka SHCCC Co-President, Cade Anderson) gives a glimpse of the event that is planned for December 15 by the same name, to be held at the new children's park in Bay Springs. Santa is scheduled to arrive to this event at 10:00 am by train on the "Seth Harris Express". Children will enjoy cookies and story time with Santa, as well as the opportunity to have their photo made with Santa, make reindeer food and purchase goodies, all to benefit the Seth Harris Childhood Cancer Foundation and the outdoor project at Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital, Mississippi's only children's hospital.
